What are Braces?Braces can be fixed or removable. Traditionally they consist of brackets that are fixed onto the teeth and which are attached to wires that help move the teeth. Nowadays more braces are removable and may consist of an acrylic plate that is attached to strong wires that help squeeze the teeth into the correct positions and clear plastic aligners are extremely popular. Systems such as Invisalign uses nearly invisible aligners that fit tightly over the teeth and which gradually move the teeth into the correct positions.

Is it Better to Have Fixed or Removable Braces?

This all depends on the problems that require correction. Removable braces are extremely popular as they are easy to use and are taken out for eating and brushing so there is very little impact on day-to-day life. In spite of this, fixed braces are still widely used as they can produce great results. The brackets enable dentists to move teeth with a high degree of precision and they can be very good for correcting more complex orthodontic problems.
